Project Our client, a medium-sized manufacturing company, approached SQPS for assistance in getting certified to ISO 9001:2000 standard within 4 months.

Approach Our approach can be summarized as follows:
  • We conducted a one-day gap audit in which we analyzed the current status of the quality management system (QMS) and compared findings to the ISO 9001:2000 requirements.
  • We assembled a team from different processes of the client's facility. This included sales, design, production, and quality.
  • The team identified all gaps from audit results and subsequent discussions
  • We developed a Gantt chart (schedule) for project activities.
  • The following steps were followed in establishing the QMS:
    • Identified all products, customers, and suppliers
    • Identified all production processes (from orders to delivery)
    • Identified what the client deemed important measures for success. These were used to establish a balanced scorecard, quality policy and objectives
    • completed lower level documentation first then moved up
    • Developed a detailed flowchart to show how all processes interact and interface.
    • Developed a simple database in Microsoft Access to manage the system

Results The resulting QMS was efficient and sustainable. No nonconformances were reported by the registrar during the certification audit and in subsequent surveillance audits.
